It was built specifically to be a compact machine with a slightly shorter 18-inch stride and a footprint measuring 24 x 54 inches.
While it’s still a starter machine – and doesn’t have the kind of construction quality you’ll find on a higher end mid or commercial-grade crosstrainer, if you want something simple, basic and affordable (from a good name), it’s definitely worth considering.
The Schwinn 411 is a front drive machine – meaning the flywheel is placed out in front of the pedals.
It also offers you both stationary and moving arm bars. This is great since you can rest your arms somewhere if you’re tired of working your upper body and want to take a break.

Console Details
The console itself is a bit on the smaller side – and it’s not backlit. Schwinn calls it a “streamlined” console. Meaning it’s been streamlined to only give you the basic feedback information (which is fine since some people want that).
You’ll be able to track your time, distance, speed, calories and heart rate on this console.
There are easy-to-reach stop and start buttons along with 3 different buttons to start different workout programs – and controls for your resistance.
You get 16 different levels of resistance with this trainer – which is a bit low.
There’s also a handy media shelf in the middle of the console that will hold your tablet or iPhone. So you can watch TV shows, youtube videos or movies on your tablet as you workout. This can add some fun distraction to your workout and a lot of people like to have this option.
You can also keep track of your heart rate with the hand grip sensors in front of the console on the stationary handle bars.
The machine will also work with a wireless heart rate monitor. However you would have to buy one separately – as it’s not included with this trainer.

Schwinn 411 Elliptical Review – Any Downsides?
As stated above, this is a starter elliptical. It’s very basic and comes with limited options. The console is not backlit – so it can be hard to read at times. There is no fan or docking station in the console like you get with many other ellipticals.
You also have to toggle back and forth to read your workout stats – which some people don’t like.
Also, the unit weight of this machine is quite light (100 pounds). So while it is extra-compact, which is a good thing – it’s probably not going to be super-stable, especially if you really work it hard.
There’s also no incline with this trainer. Incline changes the slope of your running pathway and helps you to get a better crosstraining workout. Many people like to have incline on their elliptical – but at this price point, you don’t usually find it.
If you want incline, you might be better going with something a little more like the Schwinn 470 or Nordictrack C9.5

Is this machine good for someone who had a hip replacement I’m in my 60’s. Also can my son use it he’s 6’2 250lbs.
Why it is so hard to use even at the lowest resistance. Ism not happy with my 411 model. How can I trade for a better machine. Can I trade it. It is only 8 months since I got it as a gift from my son. I will like to buy a smoother running model.
