Proform Hybrid Trainer Pro Review – Highlights:

The Hybrid Trainer PRO is an upgraded version of the original Hybrid Trainer.  It’s a popular 2-in-1 elliptical bike. You can use it as a recumbent bike – or move a few things around and use it as an elliptical trainer.

It only takes 2 quick adjustments – in the pedals and the console – to change the Hybrid Trainer Pro from a recumbent bike into an elliptical – or vice versa.

And unlike some other 2-in-1 elliptical bikes, it’s not hard (or back-breaking) to make these adjustments. You can do it in less than 30 seconds.

The Pro version improves over the original Hybrid Trainer with a longer stride length (for more comfortable elliptical striding), upgraded pedals for better traction while you’re cycling and a heavier flywheel – which helps to add more stability to the machine.

Proform Hybrid Trainer Pro Review – Console:

The console on this machine is pretty basic.  It’s on the smaller side and you really only get the essential feedback on it.

However the console itself is adjustable – so you can find the right viewing angle for you. And it shows your speed, time, distance, and calories burned so you can monitor your training stats. There are also 20 built-in workout programs to spice up your workout routine.

A sturdy bracket above the console holds your tablet securely above the feedback window. This can make your workouts a lot more enjoyable. You can go online and surf the net as you workout. You can watch movies or TV shows as you workout.

You can also connect to iFit and explore famous trails from all over the world (more on iFit below).

The console also includes a music port with speakers.

Although not the most powerful speakers on the market, they should be fine for most users. You can plug in your iPhone or other device and listen to your workout mix through the console.

Travel The World With iFit

The Hybrid Trainer Pro comes with built-in Bluetooth/iFit compatibility.  iFit essentially takes your machine online.

From there you can monitor and track your workout progress over time to see how far you’ve come.

You can also stream workouts from popular personal trainers where they take you on guided running workouts all over the world from Thailand to Hawaii!

Proform Hybrid Trainer Pro Review – Design Upgrades

This trainer also comes with upgraded pedals that makes it more comfortable for you to pedal that bike when in recumbent mode.

And it also carries a heavier flywheel than the standard Hybrid Trainer: 15 pounds vs 13 pounds. The heavier flywheel helps to give a more stable feel to the machine.

Taller users will also appreciate the longer 17 inch stride, especially when using this as an elliptical as the 15 inch stride on the standard Hybrid Trainer can feel a bit short for taller users.

Proform Hybrid Trainer Pro Review – Other Benefits

The Hybrid Trainer Pro also gives you more resistance levels than the Hybrid trainer – 20 in all vs 16. So you have more room to grow and won’t top out at the highest level too quickly.

You can also easily stay in your target fat-burning zone with the built in hand grip heart rate sensors on either side of the console.

Hybrid Trainer Pro Review – Any Downsides?

The Hybrid Trainer Pro is definitely a big step up from the Hybrid Trainer. But there are still a few drawbacks.

The console is simple and fairly basic without a lot of fancy bells and whistles. If you want to try iFit you’ll need to have a tablet to connect. You’ll also need to buy a subscription online to try it out.

You don’t need iFit to use this trainer – the machine works just fine without it.  But it is something to be aware of if you want to try it out.

Is it Right For You?

If you like the idea of getting 2 exercise machines for the price of one – then the Hybrid Trainer PRO may be worth considering.

You can use it as a bike – or an elliptical trainer – and transition back and forth without too much trouble.

Is it the most advanced elliptical on the market? No.

It doesn’t give you some perks of a regular elliptical like incline or a super-long stride. However at this price, you really can’t argue since you’re still getting a lot for the money – including a recumbent bike as well.

Plus with the option to attach your tablet and stream movies or even add iFit workouts, you’ll never run out of new things to do on this machine.
