Proform HIIT Trainer Review – Highlights:
The Proform HIIT trainer is Proform’s answer to the super-popular Bowflex Max Trainer (with more resistance levels and a better console).
Like the Max, it combines the climbing motion of a stair climber with the upper body training of the elliptical arms.

It’s not really a stair climber or an elliptical – it’s more like a vertical elliptical. You get a 10 inch vertical and 5 inch horizontal elliptical path – it feels like you’re climbing a vertical elliptical path.
So technically it’s not what you would think of as a standard elliptical – but it can burn a lot of calories and get you a full body workout pretty quickly. With both upper and lower body muscles engaged it’s the perfect piece of fitness equipment for High Intensity Interval Training (or HIIT).
High intensity training is extremely popular these days because studies have shown that it can get you faster calorie burning results in less time. In fact, it can even keeping you burning calories post workout for hours.
(In HIIT you go all out for a specific interval and then rest in between. In fact, if you don’t want to design your own HIIT workout, there are special HIIT workouts designed for the Proform Cardio HIIT Trainer with iFit Coach.)
Proform HIIT Trainer Review – The Console:
The console on this trainer is bright and backlit, making it easy to follow your workouts stats. There’s also a scrolling message board to lead you through your workout. The console displays your speed, time, distance, and calories burned.
There’s also a sturdy bracket above the console so you can attach your tablet and watch your favorite shows as you workout. You can also go online and surf the net or even connect to iFit and run new workouts (more on that below).
Listen to your favorite tunes through the built-in console speakers with the iPod dock built into the console. There’s also a two-speed fan to keep you cool.
Add More Challenge with iFit Coach:
The Proform HIIT Trainer also comes iFit LIVE compatible (now called iFit Coach as it’s a bit more customized to your specific needs). With iFit you can track your workouts and graph them online to see how far you’ve come. You can also download new workouts to your trainer – including some high-impact HIIT Workouts specially designed for this machine.
You can also run famous trails all over the world from Hawaii to Paris and watch real landmarks pass you by in your tablet screen. This adds some virtual reality fun to your workouts.
Note however that iFit Coach is an online subscription based service. You can get it through the Manufacturer here. You don’t need to get iFit to use this machine however – there are already 32 built-in workouts included to add some challenge to your workout. You can always wait and get iFit when you’re ready.
Proform HIIT Trainer Review – More Benefits:
The Proform HIIT Trainer also gives you 24 resistance levels. While most ellipticals do give you resistance, you don’t usually get this many resistance levels on a machine at this price point. So there’s a lot of room to grow with this machine.
In addition to the moving arm bars, you also get stationary bars in front of the console with EKG grip pulse sensors. These make it simple to keep track of your heart rate and stay in your target fat-burning zone as you workout.
Another bonus to this trainer is that it’s very compact and takes up less space than a standard elliptical. The footprint on it measures 66.7″L x 29.25″W. So if you have a smaller workout area like a condo or apartment this is a great option.
Anything Else You Should Know?
While this is the most affordable HIIT Trainer, if you want a bit more luxury, you may want to upgrade to the Proform HIIT Trainer PRO – seen below.

The PRO model gives you more resistance levels and a full-color, touch-screen console. It also has a slightly heavier flywheel which helps to add stability.
However for most people, the HIIT trainer should be fine.
