Octane Q47 Elliptical Review – Highlights:
The Octane Q47 elliptical is Octane’s premium home elliptical trainer – built on the same frame as their health club models.
And this is one impressive machine – both from a construction and a crosstraining perspective.
The high-end construction is seen in the double-wheel track design, close pedal spacing and soft-grip pedals.

The footpedals are only 1.8 inches across. This closer pedal spacing means your body is properly aligned from head to toe, minimizing pressure on your lower back.
Because this makes for a more comfortable, natural-feeling running motion, you’re more likely to stay on the elliptical for longer – and feel great post workout.
Plus the Q47 comes with a double-wheel-track design. This means there are 2 wheels on the track (covered by a shield) instead of the one you often find on cheaper machines.
The double-wheel-track design means the wheels are less likely to come off the track and break, costing you money to fix it.

Smart Stride Adjustable Incline
While several elliptical trainers give you an adjustable stride, the Smart Stride feature actually goes one better.
It will sense your speed and then automatically adjust your stride as you go. As you speed up, your stride will slowly lengthen – just as it would if you were moving from walking to jogging outside.
As you slow down (or pedal backwards), your stride will shorten. This makes for a much more natural-feeling workout. Your indoor workout mimics exactly what you would do while walking or running outside.
The adjustable stride length runs from 18 – 26 inches so it comfortably fits every user in your home.

Another Thing to Love About This Trainer?
It’s perfect for homes with low ceiling heights.
The step on height is only 5 inches above the ground – which is much lower than many other models. According to Octane, your minimum ceiling height should be 8 inches above the tallest user height for this trainer.
So for example if your tallest user is 6 feet – your ceiling height must measure no less than than 6 foot 8 inches.
With most of the low ceiling heights in houses being around 7 feet – that means this trainer should be good for most homes and basements today.
Octane Q47 Elliptical Review – The Console:
The console is easy-to-read with a red feedback window that simultaneously shows all of your workout stats. There are 2 different places to place your tablet on the console and there are 10 different built-in workouts to add some extra challenge.

The Octane Q47 also includes workout “boosters” along with the built-in workouts – X-Mode, GluteKicker and ArmBlaster. These push you to go further and get more from your crosstraining results.
One thing that Mom’s will like about this trainer is that the console has a MOM mode. This mode immediately disables the console buttons and restricts pedal movement so that young children cannot engage moving parts.
So if you have little ones around your home and you’re worried about them getting hurt or playing with the trainer when you’re not around, this is a great feature to have.
Better Upper Body Training:
The higher-end design on this trainer also shows in the arm bar design. Octane uses a low pivot point on the moving arm bars which gives you a longer range of motion.
This can help you burn more calories and get a more natural feeling workout. You end up really working your arms to their full potential and not just letting your legs pull your arms along on the bars as you pedal.

Another benefit?
With the optional side steps, you can take a break from lower body training and just focus on working your upper body with the arm-blaster program or the cross-circuit program.
The multi grip handlebars let you focus on different arm and back muscles by placing your hands on different areas of the handlebars.
And the fingertip controls on the moving arm bars let you quickly adjust speed and resistance – without having to reach up to the console to do it.
Get Even More Crosstraining with Cross Circuit
Cross circuit is a great way to add crosstraining to your workout. This program alternates on-machine-cardio intervals with off-elliptical strength training sets to help you constantly challenge your body.
The Octane Q47 elliptical comes with several attachment points at the base of the machine where you can attach Octane’s powerbands for a number of strength exercises.
Optional side platforms give you even more ways to strength train. Note however that the powerbands are extra and not automatically included with the elliptical.
Octane Q47 Review – Any Thing Else To Know?
There are actually 2 different consoles you can choose from – the X console (shown above and the one we looked at for this review) – and the upgraded XI console (shown below).
The XI console comes with a built-in fan, Bluetooth connectios, one more place to put your tablet on the console and multiple backlights. It also carries a few more built-in workouts than the X console (14 vs 10).

Octane Q47 Elliptical – Any Drawbacks?
Note that while this trainer is extremely stable – it’s also fairly heavy and not easy to move around.
Also surprisingly, this trainer does not come with incline. Incline isn’t necessary to have – but a lot of people like it.
