Octane Q37 Review – Highlights:
The Octane Q37 elliptical is Octane’s most popular and highly rated model – even being named one of Oprah’s “favorite things” in 2012.
And it’s not hard to see why – it gives you perfect blend of high-end construction, proper ergonomics for a more comfortable ride and entertainment options for fun.
You can see the high-grade construction with the double-wheel track design, close pedal spacing and soft-grip pedals.
The footpedals are only 1.8 inches across. This closer pedal spacing means your body is properly aligned from head to toe, minimizing pressure on your lower back.
Because this makes for a more comfortable, natural-feeling running motion, you’re more likely to stay on the elliptical for longer – and feel better even post workout.
Plus this trainer – like all Octane models – comes with a double-wheel-track design. This means there are 2 wheels on the track (covered by a shield) instead of the one you often find on cheaper machines.
The double-wheel-track design means the wheels are less likely to come off the track and break, costing you money to fix it.
Octane Q37 Review – The Console
You get the choice of a couple of different consoles here depending on your budget and preferences:
Octane Q37 X Elliptical Console
This is the simplest console with 1 large red display screen and 1 Smartlight feedback center. There are 2 placement options for your tablet – read and surf along with 8 built-in workout programs to challenge you.
You can also track your heart rate with the hand sensor heart rate monitor.
Another great feature on this console is the MOM mode. This mode immediately disables the console buttons and restricts pedal movement so that young children cannot engage moving parts.
So if you have little ones around your home and you’re worried about them getting hurt or playing with the trainer when you’re not around, this is a great feature to have.

Octane Q37 XI Elliptical Console
This is the souped-up console with more bells and whistles. It has 3 placement options for your tablet – read, surf and watch.
Plus the Smartlight shows you how hard you’re working, if you’re in your target heart rate zone and when to prepare for your next interval.
The XI console also works with a Polar wireless heart rate monitor for more accurate heart rate tracking.
And the 3-speed console fan is a great way to stay cool throughout your workout.
But the real magic of this console? Smartlink
Smartlink on the Q37 XI Console
Smartlink is an amazing app that you can download to your tablet. From there it can basically become a whole new console where you can track your workouts, download new workout programs, get coaching and more.
Here’s a video showing you just some of the things it can do:
As you can see there are really cool options like creating your own 90 day workout plan, video coaching and cross circuit training videos.
Plus because it’s a simple app that you download to your tablet or iPad there’s really no learning curve – it’s pretty easy to just download it and go.

Another Thing to Love About The Octane Q37 Elliptical?
It’s perfect for homes with low ceiling heights.
The step on height is only 4 inches above the ground – which is much lower than many other models. According to Octane, your minimum ceiling height should be 8 inches above the tallest user height for this trainer.
So for example if your tallest user is 6 feet – your ceiling height must measure no less than than 6 foot 8 inches.
With most of the low ceiling heights in houses being around 7 feet – that means this trainer should be good for most homes and basements today.
Better Upper Body Training:
The higher-end design on this trainer also shows in the arm bar design. Octane uses a low pivot point on the moving arm bars which gives you a longer range of motion.
This can help you burn more calories and get a more natural feeling workout. You end up really working your arms to their full potential and not just letting your legs pull your arms along on the bars as you pedal.
With the optional side steps, you can take a break from lower body training and just focus on working your upper body with the arm-blaster program or the cross-circuit program.
Get Even More Crosstraining with Cross Circuit
Cross circuit is a great way to add crosstraining to your workout. This program alternates on-machine-cardio intervals with off-elliptical strength training sets to help you constantly challenge your body.
The Octane Q37 elliptical comes with several attachment points at the base of the machine where you can attach Octane’s powerbands for a number of strength exercises.
(The Powerbands are also included with the Q37 XI console).
Optional side platforms give you even more ways to strength train.
Octane Q37 Elliptical – Any Drawbacks?
This trainer does not come with incline or ramp – which changes the shape of your elliptical pathway. While incline is not necessary to have, some people like it.
Also this is a very heavy machine at a whopping 220 pounds – so don’t expect to be wheeling it around too much.
