Nordictrack Spacesaver SE7i Elliptical Review – Highlights:
The Nordictrack Spacesaver SE7i elliptical is Nordictrack’s most affordable folding elliptical trainer. Folding elliptical trainers are hard to find these days – but they’re great for apartments or smaller workout areas.
The SE7i trainer easily folds up so that you can move it – using the rear mounted transport wheels – to a closet or the corner of the room.
Unlike cheaper folding ellipticals, the SE7i also feels stable and steady when you work it. (Because of the limits of a folding elliptical design, you often get folding crosstrainers that feel flimsy and wobbly, especially when you work them.)
But the Spacesaver SE7i is built with heavier grade components including a steel frame and 18 pound flywheel to give you more of a stable, solid feel.
You can fold this trainer up and put it in a corner of the room or even in a closet for easy storage.
Nordictrack Spacesaver SE7i Review – Console
Nordictrack upgraded the console on this trainer last year – from a dual-color to a full color, HD touch-screen. This is a huge improvement. Plus they made it bigger as well, from 7 inches to 10 inches.
You can see your workout stats with a swipe of your finger. You can also connect to iFit, Nordictrack’s streaming service, and run famous world trails or take a fitness class from your home (more on iFit below.)
You can tilt the console window to find the best viewing angle for you – which is a nice touch as well.
The console also comes with speakers and is Bluetooth compatible. So you can connect your phone or other device and play your favorite workout mix through the console speakers.
Travel the World with iFit
The Nordictrack Spacesaver SE7i comes iFit compatible. iFit connects your elliptical to the Internet. You can then track your workouts over time to see how far you’ve come – and set new fitness goals.
You can also stream trainer-led studio workouts to your machine. There are literally thousands of workouts to choose from.
You can even take live classes now and keep up with your friends in real time. The elliptical comes with automatic trainer control – meaning that your class instructor can even change the resistance or incline for you.

But it’s not just about staying inside with iFit.
You can also run virtual trails all over the world – from Hawaii to Paris to Australia – and watch real life landmarks pass you by in the console screen. This can really take your training to a whole new level.
You can also use the Googlemaps feature to map out your own trails and you’ll still see the landmarks of whatever street you’re running. So you can choose to run through an old neighbourhood if you want – very cool.
Add More Challenge with Incline
Another way to challenge yourself on this trainer is by using the incline which ranges from 0 – 10 degrees. Incline is not the same as resistance (resistance makes you work harder and harder to push the pedals down when running).
Instead, incline changes the slope of your elliptical pathway. This helps you to crosstrain different muscle groups and get a better workout overall
And this incline is power incline – meaning you can change settings from your console instead of having to get off the machine to do it, which is handy.
Nordictrack Spacesaver SE7i Review – More Benefits:
You can customize the fit and feel of your elliptical workout even more with the 3-setting adjustable footpedals. You can choose the right toe-heel angle for you and get a more comfortable feel. This also helps to reduce toe numbness after long workouts.
Nordictrack SE7i Review – Any Drawbacks?
While the 18-inch stride will be fine for most people, if you’re over 6 feet, you may find it a bit too short for your liking. If this is the case you might be better off going with a fully adjustable stride like you find on the FS10i Freestrider.
And while it’s not really a deal-breaker – there are no resistance or incline controls on the moving arm bars. You have to reach up to the console to do it.
Bottom Line?
While it lacks some of the finish and style of Nordictrack’s higher end models, if you want a simpler, more affordable elliptical, the SE7i is a great option.
It’s one of the few mid-range elliptical models that folds up – but still feels strong and stable when you actually workout on it. Plus you can get some added crosstraining with the incline function.
Another bonus is that you can add iFit if you want more streaming or entertainment options.
