Trying to decide between the Nordictrack FS10i vs FS14i Freestride Trainer?

The Freestride Trainer is a special hybrid type of elliptical trainer with a completely adjustable stride.

You can do short, up-and-down strides, longer jogging strides and even longer hurdling strides.

This gives you a lot more flexibility and training options than a standard elliptical.

There are currently 2 different models: the FS10i and the FS14i Freestrider.

What’s the difference?

And which is best for you?

Let’s take a closer look at the 5 main differences between the Nordictrack FS10i vs FS14i Freestride elliptical trainer.

Nordictrack FS10i vs FS14i – Price

As of this writing, the Nordictrack FS10i Freestrider is the more affordable option, coming around $1899 with Free Shipping here.

The FS14i Freestride Trainer is the next model up, with a few more perks. You can get it for around $2499 with Free Shipping here.

So what do you get for the extra money on the FS14i model? Let’s take a look.

Nordictrack FS10i or FS14i? Console

Both trainers give you impressive, full-color, HD, touch-screen consoles.

You can go online to iFit and run trails all over the world or take fitness classes through your console.

The main difference is in the size of the console. The Nordictrack FS10i console is 10-inches across:

The Nordictrack FS14i console is 14-inches across:

You’ll also notice that the FS10i has quick-touch resistance buttons up and down the sides of the console window whereas the FS14i doesn’t have them (due to the larger screen size).

This may or may not matter to you since you can still change resistance with the buttons below the screen on the FS14i. But some people do like the one-touch buttons.

Note that both screens can tilt – so you can find the best viewing angle for you.

Nordictrack FS10i vs FS14i: Incline/Decline

Incline on an elliptical is not the same as resistance.

Incline changes the slope of your elliptical running pathway, helping you work different groups of lower body muscles (kind of like running uphill vs running on a flat surface).

Both trainers give you up to 10 degrees of incline for extra challenge.

However the FS14i Freestrider goes one better with 10 degrees of DECLINE as well. So you can go uphill or downhill on this trainer.

Decline is rare – you don’t usually find it on an elliptical trainer. And it gives you more options to crosstrain.

Plus the decline (and incline) on the FS14i model works with the iFit world trails to incline or decline to match the terrain you’re running, which is pretty cool.

Nordictrack FS14i vs FS10i: Handrail Controls

The Nordictrack FS14i Freestrider comes with incline and resistance controls on the moving arm bars. This feature is not found on the FS10i model.

This is handy since you can change your resistance or incline on the fly. You don’t have to stop your upper body workout and reach up to the console to change things.

Nordictrack FS10i or FS14i: Resistance

You get up to 24 resistance levels on the FS10i model whereas you get a bit more on the FS14i trainer: 26.

This isn’t a huge difference and certainly not a deal breaker. You just get a bit more room to grow with the FS14i Freestrider.

Bottom Line?

So which is best for you when comparing the Nordictrack FS10i vs FS14i Freestride Trainers?

Well, the FS10i comes in at a more affordable price.

And it does have everything you need for a more effective, high-calorie-burning workout like the adjustable stride, 10 degrees of incline and iFit workout options.

However the FS14i is more of a luxury option with everything the FS10i carries plus a larger screen, decline for better crosstraining, arm bar controls and more resistance levels.

So at the end of the day it depends on what you want and what your exercise goals are.
