Nordictrack FS10i Review – Highlights:

The Nordictrack FS10i Freestrider is the most affordable model in the series. It was introduced last year to replace the older FS9i model.

The Freestrider is a new type of elliptical that gives something most elliptical trainers don’t have – a completely adjustable stride.

While most ellipticals – even commercial grade machines – lock you into a set stride, the Nordictrack FS10i gives you up a completely adjustable stride of up to 32 inches!

Basically, the stride adapts to your body – not the other way around.

This gives you a more comfortable workout more suited to your unique height and leg length. Plus there’s also another benefit.

Because your body is not locked into one set stride, it can’t adapt. You’re always changing things up – which means a better crosstraining workout and more calories burned!

With the adaptable stride you can do short up and down strides like a stair climber, longer jogging strides like a standard elliptical or even longer hurdling type strides like a treadmill. So you can basically use the FS10i elliptical as 3-machines-in-1.

How Does It Work?

Unlike the standard elliptical design, the Freestrider has cushioned pedals that ride on belts rather than traditional rails attached to the crank.

This gives you more of a feeling of floating on air – and also reduces the impact on your joints, which is great for those prone to shin splints, back or knee issues.

And this is a center drive elliptical – with two smaller flywheels on either side of the pedals. This design has the benefit of placing you more upright on the elliptical – which again feels more comfortable and natural for many people.

Full-Color, HD Console

The Nordictrack FS10i Freestride Trainer comes with an impressive 10-inch, full-color, HD, touch-screen console:

This makes it a lot of fun to watch. You can swipe your finger and see your workout stats in living color. You can also stream iFit workout programs and around-the globe scenic trails right to your console for some virtual reality fun!

The screen will also tilt so you can find your optimal viewing angle. And for cooling there’s a built-in console fan (although it’s not the strongest fan we’ve ever seen).

What is iFit?

iFit is Nordictrack’s online streaming service. You can connect to iFit through the FS10i console (using the wireless internet in your home). From there you can do all sorts of cool stuff.

You can stream a new workout class to your elliptical every day. Follow your favorite instructor or even take a series of workouts focusing on different things like strength training, calorie burning and more.

Want to explore the world?

There are thousands of guided world-trail workouts to choose from. Explore the temples of Thailand, the shores of Hawaii or the streets of Paris.

You can follow different personal trainers who guide you through your workout, giving you motivation and tips along the way.

With iFit, you can also track your workouts over time to show you how far you’ve come (which can be very motivating). You can also use it to set and achieve new goals.

The best part?

As of this writing, if you get the Nordictrack FS10i through the Manufacturer, you can get a Full Family membership to iFit Coach included for a short time. So you can try it out first to see if it’s right for you (You don’t need iFit to use this elliptical- it’s an add-on option).

More Benefits of the Nordictrack FS10i Freestride Elliptical:

Need more of a challenge? The FS10i also comes with up to 10 degrees of power incline. Incline changes the slope of your workout and helps you train different lower body muscles.

You can change both your incline and resistance from the console – or from the controls on the moving arm bars. These in-handle controls are really handy because you don’t have to reach up to the console (and break up your upper body arm workout).

Nordictrack FS10i Review –  Any Downsides?

The FS10i doesn’t come with stationary handlebars to rest your arms. If you want to rest your arms you can just keep holding onto the moving arm bars (and let them move you). Or grasp the top of the console to rest your arms there.

Also, while you can try iFit out for a short time, if you want all the iFit workouts included, eventually you’ll need to get a subscription.

You don’t need iFit to use this trainer – and there is a free version of iFit you can use that includes some built-in workouts. But it’s something to keep in mind.

Is It Right for You?

If you’re looking for a premium crosstrainer where you can set your own pace and stride, the FS10i is a great option.

You’ll never “adapt” to one motion and can constantly challenge your body (and burn more calories) with this trainer. And if there are multiple users in your home, you’ll have the assurance that everyone can find the right stride fit for them.
