Nordictrack Commercial 9.9 Review – Highlights:
The Nordictrack 9.9 Elliptical is Nordictrack’s most affordable, front-drive elliptical, replacing the older 9.5 model.
Many people prefer a front-drive trainer as they take up less space than a rear-drive machine. Plus they’re generally thought to be more stable overall.

The Nordictrack Commercial 9.9 comes in at a great price and gives you a heavy 25-pound flywheel for better stability – as well as power incline to add different crosstraining options.
You also get a full-color, HD, touch-screen console, which you don’t usually find in other brands at this price point. This can make your workouts a lot more fun and enjoyable.
So is this the right trainer for you? Let’s take a closer look:
Stream Fitness Classes in Full, HD Color
While the console is not as large as other Nordictrack Commercial elliptical consoles, it’s still a pretty generous 7-inches across. You can see your workout stats in full color with a swipe of your finger.
The console also connects to iFit – Nordictrack’s online streaming service – using the Wifi in your home.
From there you can do all sorts of fun things like stream new fitness classes to your machine – or run trails all over the world and enjoy the scenery (more on iFit below).
The console also has a built-in cooling fan and a dock with speakers. So you can plug in your phone or other device and play your music as you workout.
Explore the World with iFit
As stated above, iFit is Nordictrack’s online streaming service. You can stream a new workout class to your elliptical every day.
There are thousands of classes to choose from – and the trainer can even control your resistance/incline for you during the workout for a truly interactive experience (you can override this feature if you wish).
Want to get out and see the world?
You can also run world-famous trails – from Paris to Hawaii to Australia – and watch real life landmarks pass you by in the console screen.
The scenery is synced to your movement – adding a touch of virtual reality to your workouts.
Don’t want to run on your own? Choose an iFit personal trainer to guide you through your workout – from Santorini to the Swiss Alps.

The best part?

Add More Challenge with 20 Levels of Incline:
Another way to challenge yourself on this trainer is by using the incline which ranges from 0 – 20 degrees. Incline is not the same as resistance (resistance makes you work harder and harder to push the pedals down when running).
Instead, incline changes the slope of your elliptical pathway. This helps you to crosstrain different muscle groups and get a better workout overall.
And this incline is power incline – meaning that you can change settings from your console instead of having to get off the machine to do it, which is handy.
Upgraded, Curved Handlebars
While most trainers at this price point give you simple bar-like handlebars, the Commercial 9.9 gives you curved handlebars. This gives you multiple positions to grasp while you’re working your upper body.
Customize Your Workout With Adjustable Pedals
Another nice feature on this elliptical are the adjustable pedals – which let you choose from several different toe-heel angles. This way you can choose the most comfortable fit for you.
Nordictrack Commecial 9.9 Review – More Benefits
When it comes to elliptical trainers, a heavier flyhweel helps you get a more smoother feeling ride – especially during resistance transitions. It also helps anchor the machine for added stability.
The Nordictrack 9.9 elliptical comes with a generous 25 pound flywheel – which is excellent at this price point.
Don’t want to work your arms?
You can rest them easily on the stationary handlebars which also come with EKG grip pulse sensors. So you can get a quick heart rate reading and make sure you’re staying in your target fat-burning zone.
Nordictrack 9.9 Elliptical Review – Any Downsides?
One thing to be aware of is that while Nordictrack advertises this machine as having an adjustable stride of 18 to 20 inches, that’s not really the case. If you want to change the stride you have to change the incline of the trainer.
So you can’t just set one stride for the whole workout and keep it there – especially if you’re going to be changing the incline settings. This is a small thing but it’s something to be aware of.
Also, this elliptical has a few less resistance levels than other Nordictrack Commercial models – 22 vs 26. However this isn’t really a deal-breaker.
Is it Right For You?
If you want a front drive elliptical with some great entertainment perks – that won’t break the bank – you may want to consider the Nordictrack Commercial 9.9 elliptical.
It’s the most affordable model in the series and you get several perks that you don’t usually find at this price point with other brands – like a full-color, console and a year of streaming fitness workouts included.
While it’s not the fanciest elliptical in the lineup, it’s still a good blend of affordability and fun entertainment features.
