Nordictrack Commercial 14.9 Elliptical Review – The Basics:
The Nordictrack Commercial 14.9 elliptical is Nordictrack’s premium front-drive elliptical trainer.
As the name suggests, it’s built tougher than their starter models with a massive 32-pound flywheel, high level of power incline and commercial-gauge, steel construction.

A heavier flywheel on an elliptical helps to give you a smoother-feeling ride without the jerky stop-and-starts you get with cheaper machines.
It also helps to anchor the machine, giving you a more stable feel. That means you can really pick up your pace on this trainer and it won’t budge or rock side-to-side like some starter ellipticals.
Many people also like the fact that it’s a front drive trainer (meaning the flywheel is placed in front of the pedals instead of behind).
There’s no general consensus as to which elliptical design is best. However many people feel a front drive trainer feels a bit more stable than a rear drive machine.
Full Color, Touch-Screen Console:
One of the best things about thie elliptical?
You get a full-color, HD, touch-screen that shows you iFit studio and world trail workouts in full glory. Plus, Nordictrack updated the console this year to be even larger – from 10 inches, they’ve enlarged it up to 14 inches!
The larger screen makes it a lot more fun to watch your workouts in living color.
You can also listen to your favorite tunes with the music port and built-in speakers. There’s also a handy console fan that matches your exertion rate to keep you cool and comfortable during your workout.
Basically this console is like having your own entertainment fitness center built into the console.
iFit Coach Takes You Around the World:
This elliptical integrates with iFit – which is Nordictrack’s online streaming and entertainment system. You can do so many things with iFit.
For example, you can choose to run famous trails all over the world – from Hawaii to the Swiss Alps – and watch real landmarks pass you by in the console screen.
You can also workout with a coach as they lead you through workouts in exotic locales like Paris or Santorini.

The elliptical also tries to match the incline or decline of the trail you’re running as well for a more realistic feel – something you definitely don’t get with other brands of trainers.
Want more of a challenge?
Stream a studio workout class directly to your console. There are thousands of classes to choose from.
You can follow your favorite trainer and even see how other people rate the class before you try it.
You can also track your progress over time to see how far you’ve come – which is great for goal setting and making New Year’s resolutions. Basically iFit can give you a more immersive, enjoyable workout experience overall.
Plus – as of this writing – if you get the new Nordictrack 14.9 elliptical through the Manufacturer, you can currently get a Full Family Membership to iFit Coach included for a short time.
So you can try out everything iFit has to offer first – including over 12,000 different video workouts – to see if it’s right for you. (You don’t need iFit to use the elliptical, it’s an add-on feature).

Nordictrack 14.9 Elliptical Review – Power Incline:
Another way to challenge yourself on this trainer is by using the incline which ranges from 0 – 20 degrees. Incline is not the same as resistance (resistance makes you work harder and harder to push the pedals down when running).
Instead, incline changes the slope of your elliptical pathway. This helps you to crosstrain different muscle groups and get a better workout overall.

And this incline is power incline – meaning you can change settings from your console instead of having to get off the machine to do it, which is handy.
And you also get 26 levels of resistance – more than most elliptical trainers give you at this price point. So there’s lots of room to grow with this machine.
Greater Comfort with Adjustable Footpedals
You get oversized, cushioned pedals on this trainer. Plus there are 3 different toe-heel adjustments.
So you can find the best, most comfortable fit for your body. This is also handy for multiple-user homes as everyone can find what’s right for them.
Nordictrack Commercial 14.9 – Handlebars
You get both moving and stationary arm bars on this machine. A lot of manufacturers aren’t offering both stationary and moving arm bars now – just moving arm bars.
But if you want to take a break and rest your upper body for a while, it’s nice to have a stationary armbar to grasp.
Nordictrack 14.9 Review – Any Drawbacks?
The Commercial 14.9 elliptical is solid and stable – but it’s heavy. That makes it great for stability – but it makes it difficult to move around. While there are wheels on the bottom, don’t expect to move it around too often.
Also, while you can try out iFit for a short time, if you want to continue to use all the iFit programs, eventually you’ll need to get a membership.
There is a free version of iFit you can use which does include some workout programs. And you don’t need to have the full membership to use the machine. – it works without it. But it’s something to keep in mind.
