Is The Nautilus 618 Elliptical a Good Buy?
The Nautilus 618 elliptical trainer is the premium model in the Nautilus elliptical lineup – with a lot of comfort options to give you a better workout overall.
It’s heavier-duty than other Nautilus models with an optimized drive train, dual-roller track design and a perimeter weighted flywheel for smooth, consistent workouts.
The footpedals are also adjustable for maximum comfort – and the multi-position arm bars let you work different upper body muscle groups.
Nautilus is not as well known for making elliptical trainers as other fitness equipment. But they actually do a really good job at it.
They’re also one of the largest fitness equipment manufacturers in the world right now – owning other brands like Schwinn and Bowflex in addition to the Nautilus brand.
So how does the Nautilus E618 elliptical measure up? Here’s what you need to know:
The console is pretty impressive on this trainer. It’s backlit with 2 separate feedback windows. There’s a media shelf in between – so you can put your tablet on the media shelf – but still see your workout stats through the lower feedback window.
The console also tilts – so you can find the best viewing angle for you.
There are large, easy-to-read start and stop buttons as well as built-in workout program controls. You get 29 different built-in workouts with this elliptical including programs for heart rate, interval (HIIT) and weight loss.
Another cool thing about the tablet shelf is that there’s a dock so you can charge your phone or tablet as you workout. So you’ll never have to worry about running out of battery time on this machine.
There’s also a fan to keep you cool and an iPhone dock with speakers. So you can also listen to your favorite music as you workout.
And easily stay in your target fat-burning zone with the grip EKG pulse sensors in front of the console on the stationary handlebars.
Track Your Workouts With the Nautilus App
It’s easy to track your workouts and fitness progress with this trainer – as it has Bluetooth connectivity.
You can download the free Nautilus app and easily sync your workout data to see how far you’ve come. You can also earn awards and share your progress with your friends online.
Don’t want to use the Nautilus app? No problem – you can also sync with other fitness apps as well like Runsocial or MyFitnessPal.
Travel The World with RunSocial
RunSocial is a mixed reality training app you can use to run trails all over the world. You’ll see the scenery and landmarks pass you by in your tablet or phone screen as you run.
You can choose a course to download and set up an event to invite friends. Or you can also join someone else’s event and run with others online. Very cool.
Dual Slide Rails Gives Better Stability
This is an amazing construction feature that very few people notice. However, it can make a big difference in your elliptical training.
Instead of one set of rollers or wheels on the track, you get 2 or dual rollers on each track behind your pedals. With the dual rollers on this elliptical there is less of a chance that the rollers will come off the track and break (something that can happen especially if you’re really working the machine hard).
Having dual slide rails can also give you a more stable feel as you’re riding the elliptical. So it’s a great construction feature to find on this trainer – and not one you often see at this price point.
Adjustable Footpedals And Curved Handlebars
The footpedals on this trainer are adjustable. By changing the angle slightly you can find a more comfortable feel. Plus the different angles can also help you engage different lower body muscles for a better crosstraining workout.
Another plus on this machine is the curved handlebars. This offers you more positions to grasp and work the upper body arms – again helping you work different sets of muscle groups.
There are also easy incline and resistance controls on the moving arm bars – so you don’t have to reach up to the console to do it. Very handy.
Power Incline For More Challenge
The Nautilus E618 elliptical also comes with power incline – which changes the slope of your running angle for a better crosstraining experience.
You get from 0 – 10 degrees of incline on this trainer.
Nautilus 618 Elliptical Review – Any Downsides?
There’s not a lot to pick on with this elliptical trainer. It has strong construction and lots of great entertainment options as well – for a fantastic price. It’s really hard to find something wrong with this trainer, it’s such a great value.
The only thing we didn’t like is that the Nautilus manufacturer doesn’t do a great job at describing the features of this trainer – it’s very technical (which is why we’ve tried to explain the features in this review).
There’s a lot of industry jargon that can be confusing for buyers (which is a shame because there’s a lot to brag about with this trainer).
