Is The Nautilus 616 Elliptical a Good Buy?

The Nautilus 616 elliptical trainer is the mid-level model in the Nautilus elliptical lineup. It gives you solid construction with a few perks you don’t usually find in a trainer under $1000.

For example, you get a dual-wheel track design that offers a more solid, stable feel to the elliptical motion. You can challenge yourself with up to 10 degrees of power incline.

The generous 20-inch stride can help you to fully work your leg muscles. And the Bluetooth connectivity is a great way to sync and track your progress with your favorite workout apps online.

So how does the Nautilus E616 elliptical stack up? Is it the right choice for you?

Here’s what you need to know:

Console Overview:

The console is bright, easy-to-read and backlit with 2 separate feedback windows. There’s a media shelf in between – so you can watch your favorite TV shows or just surf the net on your tablet as you run.

And because of the media shelf location, you’ll still be able to see your workout stats in the lower console window as you run.

There are large, easy-to-read start and stop buttons as well as built-in workout program controls. You get 29 different built-in workouts with this elliptical including programs for heart rate, interval (HIIT) and weight loss.

Another cool thing about the tablet shelf is that there’s a dock so you can charge your phone or tablet as you workout. So you’ll never have to worry about running out of battery time on this machine.

There’s also a 3-speed fan to keep you cool and an iPhone dock with speakers. So you can also listen to your favorite music as you workout.

And easily stay in your target fat-burning zone with the grip EKG pulse sensors in front of the console on the stationary handlebars.

Add Some Crosstraining with Incline

You get from 0 – 10 degrees of power incline on the Nautilus 616 elliptical. Incline changes the slope of your running path and it helps to work different sets of muscle groups. You can change the incline settings easily with the controls on the console.

Track Your Workouts With the Nautilus App

The Nautilus E616 comes with Bluetooth connectivity. You can use this to track your workout stats with the free Nautilus App on your phone.

You just download the Nautilus app and can easily sync your workout data to see how far you’ve come. You can also earn awards and share your progress with your friends online.

Don’t want to use the Nautilus app? No problem – you can also sync with other fitness apps as well like Runsocial or MyFitnessPal.

Explore World Trails with RunSocial

RunSocial is a mixed reality training app you can use to run trails all over the world. You’ll see the scenery and landmarks pass you by in your tablet or phone screen as you run.

You can choose a course to download and set up an event to invite friends. Or you can also join someone else’s event and run with others online. Very cool.

Dual Slide Rails Gives Better Stability

This is a fantastic construction feature that often gets overlooked – but it speaks to the design quality on this elliptical.

Instead of one set of rollers or wheels on the track, you get 2 or dual rollers on each track behind your pedals. With the dual rollers on this crosstrainer you have a lower risk that the rollers will come off the track and break (something that can happen especially if you’re really working the machine hard).

Having dual slide rails can also give you a more stable feel as you’re riding the elliptical. So it’s a great construction feature to find on this trainer – and not one you often find at this price level.

Nautilus 616 Elliptical Review – Any Downsides?

For the price point, there’s not really a lot to pick on with this trainer.

Some people prefer the full-color consoles found on similarly priced elliptical trainers like the Nordictrack C9.5 Elliptical. But at this price point, a dual-color console is pretty standard among most crosstrainer brands.

There are a few perks that are left out of this model – like adjustable footpedals, tilting console and multi-position grips – which you can find on the higher-end Nautilus E618 model.

However overall the Nautilus E616 elliptical does a great job at giving you a comfortable workout at a fantastic price point.
