Compared to other Max Trainer Models the M8 trainer gives you more resistance levels, improved console, more built-in workouts, better ergonomic arm bars and improved footpedals.

The Max trainer itself is not exactly an elliptical trainer. It’s more like a combination elliptical-stair stepper.

You have the motion of a stair stepper for your lower body and the upper body strength training of elliptical arm bars. The Bowflex Max was specifically designed help you burn more calories in less time.

Some trial Max Trainer users even burned up to 600 calories in 30 minutes – which is pretty incredible.

Design Upgrades

The M8 has a few design upgrades over the M3 and M6 models including more resistance levels (20 vs 16 or 8 on the other trainers), more built-in workouts and the premium media rack above the console.

The commercial grade grips and new aerobar hand positions also make your upper body workout more comfortable and give you more grip options as well.

And if you tend toward shin splints, knee or back problems, the Max Trainer is a great option as it’s low impact. Studies also showed that it’s 2 times easier on the joints than other fitness machines.

And with the 20 different resistance levels, there’s more room to grow with this trainer than the other models. You won’t top out as easily as you would on the M3 or M6 models.

Bowflex Max Trainer M8 Performance Pack

While you can get the Bowflex Max Trainer M8 on it’s own, if you want a more upgraded option, you can also get what’s called the Max Trainer M8 Performance Pack.

This consists of the Max Trainer M8 along with a Samsung Galaxy 9.6 inch tablet, fitness mat for under your trainer and a wireless heart rate arm bar for wireless heart rate tracking.

Do you need the Performance pack or Bowflex Max Intelligence on this trainer?

No – these are just additional upgrades that are there if you want them.

The trainer will work perfectly fine without the Bowflex Max Intelligence subscription – you just won’t get all of the tracking or dynamic coaching features (but you’ll still get the built-in workouts, media rack etc.)

So really it’s up to you – some people love the option of dynamic training and workout training videos – some people don’t want it. It’s just nice to have an option.

Thanks for this post – I was going back and forth between this and the M6 – but didn’t know about the extra resistance on it till I read this review. Very helpful.
