Bowflex Max Trainer M5 Review – Highlights:
The Bowflex Max Trainer M5 is the most popular Max Trainer on the market right now – it’s a perfect blend of great features and affordability.
The Max trainer itself is not exactly an elliptical trainer. It’s more like a hybrid elliptical-stair climber.

You get the motion of a stair climber for your lower body and the upper body strength training of elliptical arm bars.
The Max Trainer was specifically designed to be a fast calorie burning machine for a total body workout. It’s perfect for high intensity interval training.
In fact, according to tests done by the Manufacturer you can burn up to 2.5 times more calories than standard fitness equipment like an elliptical, stair stepper or treadmill. Some trial max users even burned up to 600 calories in 30 minutes – which is amazing.
Tests also showed that the Max Trainer gives you 80% more upper body activation and engages more core and lower body engaged than ellipticals.
And Bowflex even included several High Intensity Training workouts built into the machine – including their famous 14 minute HIIT workout that is designed to get you burning maximum calories in just one 14 minute workout a day (including the post-workout calorie burn).
So if you’re looking for a machine that can get you faster results in less time, this is one to consider.
Console on the Bowflex M5:
The console on the M5 is a bit simple. There’s no fancy programs or funky gadgets included. But it does give you all of the things you need to know like your workout stats, program, etc.
Plus, unlike the M3 console, it’s backlit – so it’s easier to read your workout stats, even if you’re in a fairly dark room.
There’s also a calorie burn rate meter (it looks like a speedometer) on the console. This sounds cheesy yes, but it’s actually surprisingly effective in motivating you to work harder and burn more calories.
Plus there’s a media shelf or tablet holder on the console – something a lot of people don’t realize from just viewing the pics as it can be hard to see. So you can attach your tablet and watch your favorite movies or shows as you workout.
Fitness Options and Workouts on the Bowlex M5:
There are also 2 user profiles in the Max Trainer M5 (meaning it saves and stores info for 2 different users). This is convenient since you can track your workouts and you don’t have to re-enter your info every time you go to workout.
In addition to the famous 14 minute HIIT workout, there are also 9 different built-in workouts on the console you can use to spice up your routine.

This machine also comes with Bluetooth tracking. You can sync your workout results with the Free Bowflex App to track your results and see how far you’ve come. The Max M5 also syncs with MyFitnessPal and Google Fit.
Another cool thing that Bowflex has recently added is that if you get the M5 through the Manufacturer here you can get 8 Free weeks of streaming workouts on the Daily Burn, which is pretty cool and something you don’t get with any other elliptical trainer we’ve reviewed.
Bowflex Max Trainer M5 Review – More Benefits:
The Bowflex M5 Max also has the benefit of being more compact than other machines – it’s smaller than the standard elliptical or treadmill. So if you’re in a condo or apartment – or you have a smaller workout area it’s a great choice.
And if you tend toward shin splints, knee or back problems, the Max Trainer is a great option as it’s low impact. Studies also showed that is was 2 times easier on the joints than other fitness machines.
The Bowflex Max Trainer M5 also gives you 16 different resistance levels (vs only 8 on the M3). So there’s a lot of room to grow with this trainer – you won’t top out as easily as you would on the M3 model. And these resistance levels are very tough (unlike a lot of elliptical trainers). Be warned, you’re best to start out at the first level on your first workout.
Want to stay in your target heart-rate zone? No problem. There are EKG contact grips on the M5. Or if you order through the Manufacturer here, you can also get a Free wireless heart rate monitor included.
Most people prefer the wireless monitor because it’s more convenient than continually having to grasp the hand sensors (which means you’re not training your upper body.
