Bowflex Max Trainer M3 Review – Highlights:

The Bowflex Max Trainer M3 is currently the most affordable Max Trainer on the market – making it a great option if you’re on a budget.

It’s a simpler version of the M6 trainer but it still carries the famous 14 minute high intensity interval training (HIIT) workout that can get you faster results in less time.

The Max trainer itself is not exactly an elliptical machine. It’s more like a hybrid elliptical-stair stepper.

You get the motion of a stair stepper for your lower body and the upper body strength training of elliptical arm bars. The Bowflex Max was specifically designed help you burn more calories in less time.

The premise behind this trainer is that you can get a full body, high calorie burning workout in only 14 minutes a day – and they’ve done the tests to prove it.

In fact, according to tests done by Bowflex you can burn up to 2.5 times more calories than standard fitness equipment like an elliptical, stair climber or treadmill. Some trial Max Trainer users even burned up to 600 calories in 30 minutes – which is incredible.

Tests also showed that the Max Trainer gives you 80% more upper body activation and engages more core and lower body engaged than ellipticals.

So after a workout on the Max Trainer M3 you not only burn calories during that workout – you also burn calories for up to 24 hours after the workout (called the “Afterburn Effect”)

So if you’re looking for a machine that can get you faster results in less time, the M3 Max Trainer is a great choice.

Console on the Bowflex Max Trainer M3:

The console on the M3 is simpler than the M6 or M8 models giving you feedback on your time, intensity, calories burned, resistance and more.

There’s also what looks like a speedometer above the console window – but it’s technically a calorie burn rate meter. This sounds cheesy yes, but it’s actually surprisingly effective in motivating you to work hard and burn more calories.

There’s a media shelf on the console for your tablet so you can watch movies or TV shows as you workout.

You also get more 2 user profiles.  This means up to 2 different people can store their information so you don’t have to re-enter it again every time you step on the machine.

The main downfall of the console is that it’s not backlit. So if lighting in your workout area is limited you might find it a bit hard to read your stats.

Also be aware that there is no online tracking feature with the M3 trainer. The M6 and M8 do offer online Bluetooth tracking so you can sync your results and see how far you’ve come.

However if you order the M3 through the Manufacturer here, they are currently offering a Free 8 Week Daily Burn program which gives you 8 weeks of free streaming workouts – which can really get you challenged and started on the right track.

More Ways To Challenge Yourself

The Bowflex Max M3 also gives you up to 8 levels of resistance – which is about half of what you get on the M5.

However the resistance levels on these machines are not normal  elliptical resistance levels. They are extremely hard (most people can only start at one). So if you’re new to working out you should be fine with the 8 resistance levels.

Also there are no hand-grip, heart rate sensors on the console for the M3. However you do get a wireless heart rate monitor to help you stay in your target heart-rate range.

Many people find that the wireless monitor is much more accurate than the hand sensors anyways.

Bowflex Max Trainer M3 Review – Additional Benefits:

The Bowflex Max M3 is also more compact than other fitness equipment – it’s smaller than the standard elliptical or treadmill. So if you’re in a condo or apartment – or you have a smaller workout area it’s a great choice.

And if you tend toward shin splints, knee or back problems, the Max Trainer is a great option as it’s low impact. Studies also showed that it’s 2 times easier on the joints than other fitness machines.

Bowflex Max Trainer M3 – Any Drawbacks?

As stated above, the console on this trainer is not backlit – so it could be hard to read your workout feedback if you’re in a dark room. Also, you only get 8 resistance levels whereas the M6 has 16 and the M8 model has 20.

Finally there is no Bluetooth tracking on the M3 – which you may or may not care about as some people don’t really need all the online tracking tools of the higher end machines.
