Bowflex Max Trainer Total Review – Highlights:

The Bowflex Max Total is a brand new, premium Max Trainer just introduced this year.

It not only gives you the main benefit of Max Training (higher calorie burn and total body training in minimum time) but it also gives you a more immersive, enjoyable training experience.

The console on this trainer is incredible. It’s a Samsung, full-color, touch-screen.

You can see your workout stats with the swipe of your finger. Plus you can also connect to your Netflix, Amazon Video or Hulu accounts and stream videos as you workout. This is something that you don’t get with a lot of other elliptical brands.

Compared to other models the Max Total also gives you upgraded arm bars with multiple positions, double-track design for more stability, upgraded quick-resistance control and a Free 12-month subscription to Max Intelligence.

Benefits of the Max Trainer:

The Max trainer itself is not exactly an elliptical trainer. It’s more like a combination elliptical-stair stepper.

You have the motion of a stair stepper for your lower body and the upper body strength training of elliptical arm bars. The Bowflex Max was specifically designed help you burn more calories in less time.

In fact, according to tests done by Bowflex you can burn up to 2.5 times more calories than standard fitness equipment like an elliptical, stair stepper or treadmill.

Some trial Max Trainer users even burned up to 600 calories in 30 minutes – which is pretty amazing.

Tests also showed that the Max Trainer gives you 80% more upper body activation and engages more core and lower body engaged than ellipticals.

The Bowflex Max Total includes several HIIT workouts in this machine – ranging from 4 minutes up to 30 minutes.

So you can get a great workout no matter how much (or little) time you have.  These HIIT workouts are designed by Bowflex to help you burn maximum calories during your workout – and continue burning more calories even post workout for up to 24 hours.

Bowflex Max Total Console

This is a huge upgrade over the other Max Trainer models. It’s a full-color, Samsung, touch-screen console (with speakers).

You can use this to see your workout stats, connect with Max Intelligence (also called Max Digital) or even stream shows and movies from your Netflix, Hulu or Amazon Prime Video accounts.

So you’ll never run out of things to do on this trainer.

Reach New Fitness Heights with Max Intelligence

Max Intelligence is an add-on option that gives you tons of fun things to do on your trainer (Please note, this is now called Bowflex JRNY).

For example, you can get customized, individual workouts tailored specifically to your fitness level and goals.

Then as time goes on and your fitness level improves, Max Intelligence learns and changes these workouts to help you continue moving forward, reaching new fitness heights.

You can also access a huge library of trainer-led video workouts to try on your machine.

It’s also very easy to track your workouts over time, see how far you’ve come, set new goals and even earn rewards. So if you need more motivation in your workouts, this is a fantastic way to get it.

Want to travel the world?

You can also tour real-world maps from the comfort of your own home. Explore 19 different scenic locations from around the world like the Swiss Alps or Death Valley as you workout – for some virtual reality fun. You’ll see the scenery pass you by on the console screen as you go.

While Max Intelligence is an optional subscription-based service (you don’t need it to use this machine), if you get the new Bowflex Max Total from the Manufacturer you’ll get a Free 12-month subscription to Max Intelligence automatically included with the trainer.

So you can try it out for the full year to see if you like it – which is a fantastic value.

Upgraded Design

It’s not just about the frills on this machine though – Bowflex has also made it stronger and more stable with some upgraded design extras.

For example you get a double-track design. This means there are two tracks per pedal – giving you a more stable, smooth feel to the motion.

The handlebars are also upgraded on this trainer – with even more positions than the other models. So you have more ways to train your upper body with this trainer.

Another cool feature is the upgraded resistance control. Instead of scrolling through resistance buttons on the console, you can quickly change resistance with a simple turn of the illuminated dial in front of the console.

This makes it simple, easy and convenient to raise or lower the resistance quickly.

Bowflex Max Trainer Total – More Benefits

The Bowflex Max Trainer Total also has the benefit of being more compact than other fitness equipment. It has a footprint of only 4 feet x 2.5 feet – which is smaller than a lot of other ellipticals or treadmills.

So if you’re in a condo or apartment – or you have a smaller workout area it’s a great choice.

And if you tend toward shin splints, knee or back problems, the Max Trainer is a great option as it’s low impact. Studies also showed that it’s 2 times easier on the joints than other fitness machines.

Any Drawbacks?

The Max Trainer is not an elliptical trainer (although many people, for some reason, think that it is). It’s more of a stair-stepping motion. So the motion may take some getting used to if you’ve been training on an elliptical trainer for a while.

Also note that this trainer does not come with a tablet holder included.

You can however purchase a tablet holder for the Max Total if you want one here.

Under the “Any Drawbacks” section of this Bowflex “Max Total” review, you state the following:

“…Also note that this trainer – because of the size of the screen – does not have a tablet holder like the other models carry.”

That is only partially true. For the “Max Total” model, Bowflex DOES offer an optional “Media Rack” bolt-on item for the “Max Total” for $49.99.
