Sole E55 Elliptical Review – Highlights:

The Sole E55 elliptical is a strong, mid-range crosstrainer with tough, commercial-grade construction including the double-wheel track design that helps to reduce side to side foot pedal motion. It’s the next step up from the popular Sole E35 elliptical with a larger console and upgraded footpedals.

Sole E55

The E55 Elliptical comes with Sole’s famous 2 degree inward angle on the footpedals that was designed with the help of a physiotherapist to put the user’s body in a more neutral alignment.

The inward angle slope more closely mimics your body’s actual running motion – lowering the stress and pull on your joints and hips. This helps to give you a more comfortable workout – both during and after your session.

The E55 also comes with Sole’s thick, heavy duty steel frame designed for higher user weight capacity machines. This helps gives you a stable, solid feel, even when you pick up your pace and really push the elliptical.

Sole E55 Elliptical Review – Console

The console on the E55 elliptical is backlit and easy to read with all of your essential stats like calories burned, resistance, incline, time and more. The console is larger than the E35 model (9 inches vs 7 inches) which again makes your stats easier to read.

The console also has a built-in cooling fan and water bottle holder along with quick touch buttons to start different built-in workout programs. There are 10 built-in workout programs in all, including 2 custom and 2 heart rate options.

The console also carries an iPod dock with speakers so you can plug in your iPod and listen to your favorite workout mix. You can also listen by plugging in your headphones (just in case you need to be quiet for other family members in your home).

A lot of people don’t realize that Sole consoles are also adjustable. You can tilt them forward or back for the best angle of sight – another little plus you don’t usually get with other brands.

Customize Your Workout with Adjustable Footpedals

The Sole E55 comes with upgraded footpedals. These are adjustable to give you different toe-heel angles so you can find the right fit for you.

Unlike the Sole E25 or E35 models, this is done with a dial adjustment. The dial allows you to angle the pedal from toe to heel to the exact setting that you prefer.

You can dial in right to the angle that is most comfortable for you. This also helps to reduce toe numbness and sore Achilles tendons which often happen on cheaper elliptical trainers.

Challenge Yourself with Power Incline

Incline (also called ramp) changes the slope of your elliptical pathway, letting you work different sets of muscle groups. This is a more effective way to crosstrain for many people as it continually challenges your body. You don’t get used to one set motion – so its easier to burn calories.

The Sole E55 gives you 20 levels of power incline that you adjust from the console. And if you don’t want to reach up to the console and interrupt your upper body workout, no problem, you can change the incline or resistance from the moving arm bars.

The moving arm bar controls are handy since you don’t have to interrupt your upper body workout to reach up to the console to change your incline or resistance settings.

Stay In Your Target Fat-burning Zone

You can also easily track your heart rate to stay in your target fat-burning zone. There are hand sensors in front of the console. Or if you order direct from the Manufacturer here, you can get a Free wireless heart rate monitor as well.

Many people like the wireless heart rate monitor as it’s a lot more convenient than having to continuously grasp the hand sensors (which also interupts your upper body workout). Wireless chest straps also tend to give you more accurate results than the hand sensors.

Sole E55 Elliptical Review – Track Your Results Online:

Sole is starting to catch up to other manufacturers in the online tracking area and has finally added Bluetooth tracking capability on most of their ellipticals – including the Sole E55.

You can track and transfer your workout date from your elliptical to your smart device. You can use the free Sole app. It’s also compatible with Fitbit, Record, Mapmyrun or Apple Health. Tracking your results can be very motivating and can help you achieve higher levels of fitness.

Sole E55 Elliptical Review –  Any Downsides?

The Sole E55 is not overly strong in terms of entertainment options.  While other brands at this price point are giving you color consoles, touch screens and web browsers, this console is simple, dual color and fairly standard.

While you do get an iPod dock and the online tracking, these are fairly basic and not as good as other brands. Sole’s strength has really always been building commercial grade construction, high end machines.

Also, they flywheel (which helps to add stability and a more smooth ride) is only 20 pounds on this elliptical – which is decent. But you’d expect a bit more at this price point.

If you’re looking for more in terms of entertainment options, you may want to consider the similarly priced Nordictrack Commercial 14.9 with a full-color console (seen below) as well as a much heavier 32 pound flywheel.
