Proform 920E Elliptical Review – Highlights:
The Proform 920e is one of Proform’s premium front drive trainers, new this year. Perhaps because it is so new, it’s actually not getting the fanfare you’d expect – because it’s actually a fantastic bargain.
For under $1000 you get a front drive design with a heavy 25 pound flywheel for added stability. You also get a 7 inch full-color, touch-screen console with built-in web browser.
Add to that the power 0 – 20 degree incline for added crosstraining and you have a really fantastic deal. Let’s break down what you need to know about this trainer.
Proform 920E Elliptical Review – Full Color Console:
As stated above, this is a full-color, touch-screen console with built-in web browser – which is almost unheard of in an elliptical under $1000. This alone makes the 920 elliptical a great value.
The console also shows your speed, time, distance, calories burned, heart rate, and resistance stats. There’s a handy tablet holder above the console as well.
So you can watch your favorite movies or shows as you workout. The tablet will not cover the console so you will also see a constant feedback of your workout stats.
Also, the tablet holder is adjustable so you can move it to the angle that suits your height.
This is another feature that can make your workouts a lot more fun and enjoyable.
You can also connect to iFit through the console or your tablet to watch real life trails pass you by (more on that below.)
The 2-speed fan is a handy way to stay cool.
And the iPod dock with speakers can have you working out to your favorite workout tunes.
Run New Trails with iFit Coach
The Proform 920E elliptical comes with iFit optionality. iFit takes your elliptical trainer online. From there you can track your workouts to see how far you’ve come. You can also download new workouts to your trainer from an unlimited fitness library online.
You can even get some workouts designed by celebrity trainer Jillian Michaels where she coaches you through the workout thru the built-in console speakers.
And one of the best parts about iFit is that you can run famous trails all over the world – and watch real landmarks pass you by in the console screen for a more virtual-reality feel to your training.
Or use the Googlemaps feature to map out your own trail (like maybe run through an old neighbouhood). Then watch as you’re taken to that exact route!
Add Challenge with Power Incline
Incline changes the slope of your elliptical path and helps you to work different sets of muscles. It’s a great way to crosstrain and get more out of your workout.
You get from 0 to 20 degrees of incline on the Proform 920E trainer. The incline ramp is power adjustable which means you can change it from your console during your workout without having to get off the trainer to do it.
Proform 920E Elliptical Review – More Benefits
Not sure you want to try iFit? No problem. This trainer also comes with 32 built-in workouts in the console already. These are designed by a certified personal trainer to focus on goals like calorie-burning, time, speed and more.
And you also get 24 resistance levels – which gives you room to grow and improve as your fitness level gets better.
The footpedals are also adjustable on this trainer. So you can choose the right toe-heel angle for you. This helps to cut down on toe numbness and soreness, especially after longer workouts.
Proform 920E Elliptical Review – Any Drawbacks?
While iFit Coach takes you to a whole new level of training, you should know that it’s an online subscription based service. So you’ll need an online subscription to try it. However you don’t need iFit to use this trainer – it works fine (including the web browser) without it (and you do have 32 built-in workouts.
You can always wait until you’re ready and add iFit on to your trainer at any time.
Although this trainer works with a wireless heart rate monitor – it’s not included with your purchase like you get with some higher end Proform trainers. You only get the hand grip heart rate sensors.
