Benefits of the Proform 720 Endurance Elliptical:
The Proform 720 elliptical is a solid, starter elliptical, coming in at a fantastic price.
It’s a step up from the popular 520E model with more resistance levels, a heavier flywheel and power incline (instead of manual).
It’s a front drive design – which many people feel is more stable than a rear drive elliptical layout.
It also has a heavier 20 pound flywheel on it than the 520 model (which has a 16 pound flywheel). The heavier flywheel helps to anchor the machine, add stability and give you a smoother ride.
Here’s a quick review of the main benefits – and drawbacks of the Proform 720 E elliptical:
You get a bright, easy-to-read, dual-color console with this machine. So it’s easy to see your workout stats.
There’s also a scrolling message board giving you instructions and leading you through the next steps of your workout.
The console displays your mileage, speed, calorie burn, heart rate, and time. There’s also an iPhone dock with built-in console speakers. So you can enjoy your favorite workout tunes as you run.
The 24 different built-in workouts each focus on a specific goal like calorie burning, time etc. You just press Start and go. You can also design your own workout with the manual mode.
And to stay cool?
There’s a handy two-speed fan in the console – for those extra-intense workouts.
Tablet Holder For Added Fun
One of the best things about the console is what’s on top. You get an adjustable holder you can use for your tablet. So you can attach your tablet and go online or watch your favorite Netflix or Hulu shows as you workout.
The tablet will not cover the console so you will also see a constant feedback of your workout stats. And since it’s adjustable, you can move it to the angle that suits your height. This alone can make your workouts a lot more fun and enjoyable.
Power Incline for Added Crosstraining.
Incline is not the same as resistance (you get 20 levels of resistance on this trainer). Incline changes the slope of your elliptical running path and helps you to work different sets of muscles. It’s a great way to crosstrain and get more out of your workout.
The Proform 720 E elliptical gives you from 0 – 20 degrees of power incline. You can change the incline with the controls on your console display.
Travel the World with iFit Coach
The 720 elliptical will also work with iFit Coach (but you have to connect through your tablet).
iFit basically connects your elliptical online and you can track your workouts over time, set new goals and even get an unlimited number of new workouts downloaded to your elliptical.
You can also run famous trails all over the world – from the streets of Paris to the rugged terrain of the Grand Canyon. You’ll see real landmarks pass you by in your tablet screen.
You can also take a guided tour where a coach shows you famous landmarks along the way and motivates you to reach new fitness heights.
You can choose from pre-designed popular world trails or map out a trail to run yourself using the Googlemaps feature. This adds some virtual reality fun to your workouts and can take your fitness to a whole new level.
The 19 inch stride on this trainer is ideal for most users (the perfect stride runs between 18-20 inches for most people). So you can fully work your leg muscles. The longer stride also feels a lot more natural.
Shorter strides of 14 or 15 inches can feel jumpy and uncomfortable (like you’re locked into a super-short stride when you’re trying to run and stretch out).
Another bonus here is the adjustable pedals.
You can choose from 3 different toe-heel angles and find the one that feels most comfortable for you. This is something you don’t usually find on an elliptical trainer at this price point, so it’s a nice bonus to find here.
The Proform 720E is a starter machine. It’s not going to give you the heavy-duty construction or extra frills that you find on Proform’s more commercial-grade models.
Also the console is dual-color, not multi-color. If you want a similar model with a few more perks – including a full color console, you may want to consider the Proform 920 E elliptical, (seen below) – which is the next model up in the series.
Still, for this price point, you get a lot of great basics – with some extra perks thrown in that can make your workouts a lot more enjoyable (like the tablet holder, cooling fan, iPhone jack and speakers).
