Nordictrack Spacesaver SE7i Elliptical Review – Highlights:
The Nordictrack Spacesaver SE7i elliptical is Nordictrack’s most affordable folding elliptical trainer. It easily folds up so that you can move it – using the rear mounted transport wheels – to a closet or the corner of the room.
Unlike cheaper folding ellipticals, the SE7i also feels stable and steady when you work it. (Because of the limits of a folding elliptical design, you often get folding crosstrainers that feel flimsy and wobbly, especially when you work them.)
But the Spacesaver SE7i is built with heavier grade components including a steel frame and 18 pound flywheel to give you more of a stable, solid feel.
The elliptical offers the smallest storage footprint of any home elliptical measuring just 32 x 28 inches. You can easily store it away in a corner or a closet.
Nordictrack Spacesaver SE7i Review – Console
The console is backlit and easy to read – with a scrolling message board to lead you through your workouts. There’s also a dual-speed fan in the console to keep you cool, one-touch resistance buttons and an iPod docks with speakers.
A lot of people will also appreciate the sturdy bracket for your tablet above the console. You can attach your tablet and watch your favorite shows or movies as you workout. You can also use your tablet to connect with iFit LIVE and watch the trail scenery through the tablet screen (more on iFit below).
So while it’s not the fanciest console Nordictrack makes, it’s still pretty decent with some interesting toys that can make your workouts a lot more fun and comfortable.
Travel the World with iFit
The Nordictrack Spacesaver SE7i comes iFit compatible. iFit connects your elliptical to the Internet. You can then track your workouts over time to see how far you’ve come – and set new fitness goals.
You can also download unlimited new workouts to your trainer, including some from Jillian Michaels where she coaches you during the workout through the console speakers.
iFit has also gotten a little more customized this year giving you custom meal plans created by dieticians and workouts designed by certified personal trainers based on your daily calorie intake and calorie burn – which can help you reach your goals faster.
The best part about iFit however is the ability to run trails all over the world – from Hawaii to Australia – and watch real life landmarks pass you by in the tablet screen (Note: you will need your own tablet for this as you can’t do it through the console on this trainer). This can really take your training to a whole new level.
You can also use the Googlemaps feature to map out your own trails and you’ll still see the landmarks of whatever street you’re running. So you can choose to run through an old neighbourhood if you want – very cool.
Add More Challenge with Incline
Another way to challenge yourself on this trainer is by using the incline which ranges from 0 – 8 degrees. Incline is not the same as resistance (resistance makes you work harder and harder to push the pedals down when running).
Instead, incline changes the slope of your elliptical pathway. This helps you to crosstrain different muscle groups and get a better workout overall
And this incline is power incline – meaning you can change settings from your console instead of having to get off the machine to do it, which is handy.
Nordictrack Spacesaver SE7i Review – More Benefits:
You can customize the fit and feel of your elliptical workout even more with the 3-setting adjustable footpedals. You can choose the right toe-heel angle for you and get a more comfortable feel. This also helps to reduce toe numbness after long workouts.
You also get 24 built-in workouts designed by a certified personal trainer. So if you don’t want all of the iFit workouts you can spice up your routine with one of these workouts that come with the trainer.
Nordictrack has also made the assembly on this machine much easier – it comes almost fully assembled in the box. You just have a few steps and then it’s ready to go. If you’re not particularly handy, this is a great feature.
Nordictrack Spacesaver SE7i Review – Any Drawbacks?
While this trainer comes iFit ready – you will need to buy a yearly subscription online (which starts around $9 a month). While you don’t need iFit to use this trainer, if you want to try iFit, you’ll need the subscription.
But if you get it from the Manufacturer here you can also get a Free Wearable which tracks your activity during the day. So you can either buy iFit with the elliptical or wait until you’re ready to add some new challenge to your routine.
Also, the console is a bit simple on this trainer – dual color only and there’s no web browser like you get with Nordictrack’s other folding elliptical the SE9i elliptical.
