Nordictrack ACT 10 Elliptical Review – Highlights:
The Nordictrack ACT 10 Commercial elliptical is the premium Center Drive elliptical in the series with a heavier flywheel than the ACT model and an extra-large, full-color HD console.
With a center drive design, instead of one large flywheel in front or in back of the pedals you get two smaller flywheels on the sides of the pedals. There are a few advantages to this.
First of all, you stand a little more upright on the pedals and lean less on the moving arm bars. Many people feel this is a more comfortable position when working out.
And in theory you can actually burn more calories with a center drive design since you’re not leaning on the machine as much.
The ACT 10 elliptical is also more compact than other elliptical trainer designs with a footprint of around 54.0″ L x 31.5″ W x 64.25″ H. This makes it ideal if you have a smaller workout area or you’re in a condo or apartment.
Another nice thing about this design is that you get more handrail space. This can make you feel a bit more secure as there’s more handrail to grab onto than with other designs.
Nordictrack ACT 10 Elliptical Console:
The console is a huge step up from the original ACT model – it’s a multi-color, touch-screen HD console with a pivoting holder on top for your tablet. So you can surf the net as you workout and watch your stats (or iFit scenery) in large, living color.
The console screen itself is a whopping 10 inches across which is one of the largest consoles that Nordictrack makes. it also makes it a lot easier to read you workout stats.
You can workout to your favorite workout music with the iPod dock and speakers built into the console. And with the tablet holder above the console, you can watch your favorites movies or shows on your tablet as you workout.
iFit Coach Helps You Read New Fitness Goals
The ACT 10 comes iFit Coach compatible. iFit connects your machine to the Internet using the Wifi in your home.
From there it’s easy to track and graph your workout progress, set new goals and even download brand new workouts to your crosstrainer.
The best part about iFit though is the ability to run world famous trails like along the streets of Paris or along the shores of Hawaii and watch real life landmarks pass you by in the console screen.
You can also map out your own trail using the Googlemaps feature (like an old neighbourhood run you used to do) and feel like you’re actually running along that street.
Not sure you want to try iFit? No problem – this elliptical also comes with a generous 35 built-in workouts. So you can challenge yourself that way.
Then if and when you’re ready to try iFit, you can.
Get a More Customized, Comfortable Workout
The pedals on the ACT also give you another way to customize the feel of your workout – there are 3 different toe-heel angles to choose from. So you can find the best fit for you. This is also great for multiple-user families since everyone can find the best fit for them.
Another thing that makes this trainer great for families is the adjustable stride. It runs from 18 inches up to 22 inches – which pretty much covers what most people need in a stride length.
You can adjust it from the console in quarter-inch increments. This means you can really drill down and find a stride that feels just perfect for you.
Another great thing with this trainer is that, if you buy it through the Manufacturer here, you can also get a Free wireless heart rate monitor. Many people prefer the wireless chest strap as it tends to be more accurate than hand grip sensors.
The chest strap is also a lot more convenient than having to continually grasp the hand sensors to get a reading.
What Else To Know about the Nordictrack ACT 10 Elliptical:
While there are benefits to center drive ellipticals there is also one main drawback. Because of the limits of the design there is no incline.
Incline changes the slope of your elliptical pathway and many elliptical trainers these days do include it. However it’s not necessary to get a good workout. But it is something to be aware of with this trainer.
(Note: Incline is not the same as resistance. The ACT 10 does give you a healthy 24 levels of resistance.)
