Bowflex Max Trainer M8 Review – Highlights:
The Bowflex Max Trainer M8 is the premium, top-of-the-line Max Trainer model. It’s new for this year and replaces the older M7 model.
Compared to other Max Trainer Models the M8 trainer gives you more resistance levels, improved console, more built-in workouts, better ergonomic arm bars and improved footpedals.
The Max trainer itself is not exactly an elliptical trainer. It’s more like a combination elliptical-stair stepper.
You have the motion of a stair stepper for your lower body and the upper body strength training of elliptical arm bars. The Bowflex Max was specifically designed help you burn more calories in less time.
In fact, according to tests done by Bowflex you can burn up to 2.5 times more calories than standard fitness equipment like an elliptical, stair stepper or treadmill.
Some trial Max Trainer users even burned up to 600 calories in 30 minutes – which is pretty incredible.
Tests also showed that the Max Trainer gives you 80% more upper body activation and engages more core and lower body engaged than ellipticals.
The Max M8 has several High Intensity Training workouts that come built into the machine. These HIIT workouts are designed to help you burn maximum calories during your workout – and continue burning more calories even post workout for up to 24 hours.
So if you’re looking for a premium Max trainer that can get you faster results in less time, the M8 is a great choice.
Console on the Bowflex M8:
The M8 carries an upgraded console with an enhanced dual mode LCD display and 11 built-in workout programs. There’s also the calorie burn rate meter which shows you when you’re burning the most calories – which is very motivational.
There’s a premium media rack above the console for your tablet or smartphone. So you can easily watch your favorite shows or movies as you workout.
You also get more user profiles than other models – 4 instead of 2. This means up to 4 different people can store their information and they can all individually track their progress with the Max Intelligence feature.
This makes the M8 a perfect option for multiple-user families.
Get Customized Workouts with Bowflex Max Intelligence
Bowflex Max Intelligence is an optional subscription-based service you can add to the M8 model that gives you Smart training.
It will track and assess your unique fitness level and send you customized workouts that are specially designed to help you meet your goals.
There’s also a library of personal-trainer-led workout videos (which you stream on your tablet).
Bowflex will also be adding world trail workouts in the new year for some virtual reality training fun.
Basically. Max Intelligence gives you dynamic coaching. It even speaks to you, coaching and adjusting to your needs throughout your workout. This is the end of one-size-fits-all training. It’s really designed to be a unique, smart-training service you can use to reach new personal fitness heights.
The M8 has a few design upgrades over the M3 and M6 models including more resistance levels (20 vs 16 or 8 on the other trainers), more built-in workouts and the premium media rack above the console.
The commercial grade grips and new aerobar hand positions also make your upper body workout more comfortable and give you more grip options as well.
Bowflex Max Trainer M8 Review – Additional Benefits:
The Bowflex Max M8 also has the benefit of being more compact than other fitness equipment – it’s smaller than the standard elliptical or treadmill. So if you’re in a condo or apartment – or you have a smaller workout area it’s a great choice.
And if you tend toward shin splints, knee or back problems, the Max Trainer is a great option as it’s low impact. Studies also showed that it’s 2 times easier on the joints than other fitness machines.
And with the 20 different resistance levels, there’s more room to grow with this trainer than the other models. You won’t top out as easily as you would on the M3 or M6 models.
Bowflex Max Trainer M8 Performance Pack
While you can get the Bowflex Max Trainer M8 on it’s own, if you want a more upgraded option, you can also get what’s called the Max Trainer M8 Performance Pack.
This consists of the Max Trainer M8 along with a Samsung Galaxy 9.6 inch tablet, fitness mat for under your trainer and a wireless heart rate arm bar for wireless heart rate tracking.
You get all these extras for about $300 more – so it’s not a bad deal, especially if you don’t have a tablet you can use to watch the Max Intelligence workouts.
Do you need the Performance pack or Bowflex Max Intelligence on this trainer?
No – these are just additional upgrades that are there if you want them.
The trainer will work perfectly fine without the Bowflex Max Intelligence subscription – you just won’t get all of the tracking or dynamic coaching features (but you’ll still get the built-in workouts, media rack etc.)
So really it’s up to you – some people love the option of dynamic training and workout training videos – some people don’t want it. It’s just nice to have an option.
